Reunion Dinner 2012

Had our reunion dinner on 14 January.

Wonderful time with the family and I had a great time sleep over and do pillow talk with my sister. We even drove to industry park to buy yam paste, sashimi etc. A little tiring managing the musketeers but it was enjoying and fun-filled trip.

This year, we had yusheng from Kuriya. Steamboat as main course with no left over foods and dessert is yam paste with ginkgo nuts.

How I wish reunion dinner is twice yearly or even quarterly :)

Another year passed by.. another new year.. and time again to celebrate Eve's birthday. Eve wants to eat crab so we went to Jumbo Clarke Quay "again".. I must really says again cause I just had Jumbo on 17Dec.

We chat so much and busy with our traveling present and Christmas present give away that I didn't take any pic :)

It was a great night although it was raining.. but it didn't dam our mood at all.

New Job; New Environment

New job.. not sure if it is the right choice but definitely something that I want to do and good prospect. The worrying issues are no process and politics. Hope my new boss can resolve one issue for me. Into my 3rd weeks now, I need to get use to new environment... no facebook, no gmail, no msn... it means less blogging and networking with friends.

Finally at TWG today with Mavis and Vanessa (my two lovely kaki).. Heard so much about TWG tea, naturally is a must to try it.. We went there right after lunch and lucky we were early otherwise it would be a long queue... Long queue even on a weekday :)

This is one of my fave chicken rice.. whenever I'm here, I will have to order (三拼) roasted chicken, roasted duck and roasted pork.. it is the best yummy, delicious chicken rice and value for money :)

My date with darling Vanessa... to celebrate my freedom!! Didi Jerry was suppose to join us for lunch but his boss cancelled the business trip so he got to lunch with him.. Had a wonderful dinner last Friday at Hougang Zi Char... chicken, fish maw soup and sambal kang kong.. The fish maw soup is so yummy with lot of fish maw.. tasted like shark fin.. for only S$10.. Isn't it nice that you can stop shark finning, save the shark... eat fish maw (suppose more healthy) and save money.. haha!!

I've been so sick over the past few days.. that I totally lost my appetite in food. I went to Meidi-Ya supermarket at Liang Court Shopping Centre and found this Japanese store "DON" so I order a take-away Kitsune Udon at S$6. I was so impressed with the take away.. the lady actually pack the soup and udon separately and didn't even charge me for the container. She even put the soup in another plastic bag so it would not flow over.. This should be the way to do business :)

Totally lost.. no idea where to have a good lunch as the weather change so quickly nowadays.. so decide to go to Great World City for some aircon.. Didn't explore around.. I remember some nice restaurant at the upper level but want to avoid going up, wait or maybe not there any more kind of situation since I've not been there for awhile. Will just stick with basement (from carpark up one level), only see Ichiba Boshi which I want to give it a miss. So ended up in the Foods Junction for western.. realized lot of people eat pepper lunch.. anyway will give it a try next time since I only had it once when it start it first outlet in Singapore..

I'm really moody recently.. so desperately need good foods to make me a happy person again.. Went to this Japanese restaurant at Liang Court basement.. Don't know what is the name as not I'm not in the mood to notice anything :) I ordered a grill teriyaki chicken with sashimi bento and my friend had a grill teriyaki chicken with tempura bento.. The grill chicken is very crispy grilled and the chawanmushi is aso smooth.. it just slip into my throat.. After this meal, I'm a happy & sleepy person :)

I had to rush a report today and when I'm done.. I'm shocked that it is already 2:15pm and it was raining heavily outside.. Too lazy to use an umbrella and don't want to get wet.. so I just go down stair to pack a lunch at S$6.90 (Chicken cutlet with sambal fried rice).. It was nice but too much for lunch and I'm now feeling sleepy.. Go away zz monster.. I have to go for a meeting in 25 mins time..

I had a meeting today with my superior.. after that meeting obviously the workload increased but was not due to my superior. I'm happy to have that meeting at least it cleared some of my doubts and get everything aligned between the stakeholder.

By the time the meeting ended, it was almost 1pm.. My superior and me went to Bakerzin for lunch.. I had a Chicken & Mushroom Sandwich.. It was delicious.. It is served on a grilled panini with cheese, chicken breast, portebella mushroom and some greens.. It makes my day though I've gone through a bit of trauma recently.. I speak with my superior about this and as usual he speaks like a boss.. explaining that individual has their own plan.. his comment was very encouraging on each of my colleague who has decide to move on.. I wish them all well and they are going to be miss by me :)

I missed Penang's foods so much... Had Penang Prawn Mee Soup, Penang Char Kway Teow and Lok Bak at Simply Penang @ One Utama.. the first taste of the prawn mee soup was fantastic.. it is just so tasty.. The lok bak is stuffed with too much chicken meat.. the after taste was suffering.. Totally thirsty and need to drink lots of water.. It would be my first and last time to this resturant..

I'm adding another disappointment to my list.. Mellben Seafood

Had our girl night out last evening for the CNY feast.. this year decision for Mellben was no different from the bad choice last year. We had yu sheng, chilli crab, crab bee hoon soup, nai bai with mushroom, tofu with broccoli, yam ring with scallop..

Yu sheng - it was so dry (I think canton kitchen served better yu sheng)
Chilli crab- starch... maybe it is cold already
Crab bee hoon soup - good but Uncle Leong had the same crab bee hoon soup & there is no queue.
Cereal Prawn - i had the same thing in Malaysia during 2nd day of CNY and i feel it taste better
Nai bai with mushroom & tofu with broccoli - can't be a wrong dish.. cos it is only veg
Yam ring with scallop - not as good as Jumbo seafoods.. I feel the dip taste a little sour.

Ambiance would have to be in our consideration list next time.. cos it was so noise that we can't talk. We actually have to pass message and words around :(

Overall you should only go to Mellben if you are craving for crab bee hoon soup.

We had the reunion dinner on 30 Jan 2010 at Canton Kitchen by Chef Kang. We had yu sheng, poon choi and two dessert (lemon grass jelly with lime sorbet and manago with pamelo).. I like both the dessert.

Thank to Jolene for doing the reservation.. We had a private room.. can make all the noise we want, talk freely and without screaming at each other :)

Was just complaining about my job lack of challenge... and I had my performance reviewed with my manager yesterday.. the result is a WOW effect.. I'm a "top contributor with exceptional results" *bling, bling*

I've been with my current company for 02 years 04 months.. how time flies and I still recall the day when I'm so excited getting this job offer.. I've been getting really good grade over the past 2 reviews and it had always "above average contributions and outperforms most peers".. I cannot deny that my managers have been showering lots of care and concern to me.. even my managers in USA would send me personal notes every now and then asking me on how I'm coping.. and my manager-manager's boss (haha!!) would drop me thank you note, greeting.. I don't know why I'm so lucky when it come to people relationship..

Hope my luck continue this year :)

Perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party or else package everything for you to take it home in little foil doggy baggy. Will that work? Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest from the dessert buffet, and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms. Gays are allowed to sit with each other. Lesbians do not have to sit with Gay men, each group will have their own table. Yes, there will be flower arrangement for the Gay men's table. To the person asking permission to cross dress, the Grill House asks that no cross-dressing be allowed, apparently because of concerns about confusion in the restrooms. Sorry. We will have booster seats for short people. Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet. I am sorry to report that we cannot control the amount of salt used in the food . The Grill House suggests that people with high blood pressure taste a bite first. There will be fresh "low sugar" fruits as dessert for diabetics, but the restaurant cannot supply "no sugar" desserts. Sorry! Did I miss anything?!?!?

My work load is heavy as I can reply to 200 - 300 emails daily but it is the quantity but quality.. I feel that there is not much for me to learn in my current scope of work.. I need new level of challenge.. My colleague has says that one should be equip with the ability to learn, unlearn and relearn.. so maybe I should do that :)

Time flies... another year passed and all of us are getting a year older *sigh*.. it is Evelyn's birthday "again".. and we girls meet up again for the new year and to celebrate Evelyn's birthday. Twilight Saga: New Moon

I seem to fall in love with weekday movie.. I took a day off to rest and relax yesterday and managed to watch the Twilight Saga: New Moon for S$6 :)

The new moon focus seem to be on Jacob Black, the werewolf.. Even when the evil vampire Laurent returned for Bella, it was Jacob who protected and save her life. Edward in this movie, is weak and useless.. so different from the Twilight when he first appear as a handsome, cool, smart and super powerful vampire.. but still he is the star.. the dazzling "vegetarian'' vampire.. another character that I like of the Cullen family is Alice (sister of Edward). She is beautiful, sweet, happy and kind.. This episode ended with Edward saying "marry me" to Bella.. so I'm wondering what is going to happen in the next Twilight? Is Bella going to marry Edward? Is she going to turn into a vampire so she can stay at the same age with Edward forever?

My next target movie is Chipmunk part 2 :)

Gosh.. I had 红烧鱼头 for dinner today.. A dish that I missed for at least 23 years.. It used to be a regular dish that my dad will order whenever we had zi char.. It consists of fish head, beancurd, veg, yam, mushroom etc.. they deep fried the fish head then braised with gravy.. it's so yummy :p

A Disturbing Incident

I witness an accident yesterday morning.. Right before my eye and
there was nothing I could do to stop it.. I can only scream and
obviously it didn't help.. The old lady who jay walked was first
knocked by a Toyota then followed by a silver cab.. both drivers tried
to avoid but it was difficult.. The drivers came out of the cars to
check if she was ok.. I saw her consious & show pain on her leg.. it
was a disturbing sign & I hope she's fine :(

Got this phone by chance..

Story goes:
My contract expire on 06Sep.. It is a day I longed for when I got the motorola 2 months back.. but I didn't change my mobile phone.. Singtel customer service contact me on 08Sep to offer S$8 rebate off my phone bill as my contract is up for renewal. The discount is ongoing until I renewed my contract (which is getting a new phone).. I want to change a phone so the $8 doesn't look attractive to me.. I'm just lazy to make a decision and to go queue for a phone in Singtel.. Anyway there isn't many choices in the market too.. The option opens for me are HTC Hero, N97 or Iphone 3GS.. So I told the customer service that I want to change a phone and I want Iphone 3GS 16GB in black.. Thought this item was out of stock.. and to my surprise, he reply "yes", I have it and will deliver to your office on 14Sep.. AND I got this yesterday! :)

I'm still not ready for it.. so it is simply an empty phone (with no music uploaded, no idea how to use it, no casing)..

I watched a TV program on the origin of claypot rice and was craving for it *drooling*..

I know there is a newly opened air-con claypot rice in East Coast so I decide to try it out on Sat..

We are the first customer (hehe!! kaisu.. cause no reservation allowed!!).. The moment you step into the shop.. it gives you a retro feels with the decor and music played.. even the plate, spoon and bowl come with the hen print.. you can smell the aroma of the sesame.. We ordered steamed chicken with mushroom claypot rice, yong tau foo and 高汤菠菜.. This shop sells Cantonese style claypot rice, it is different from the normal claypot rice that we eat.. there is no dark sauce.. There is a special house made sauce for the rice.. It is a light in colour sauce not really that salty or sweet.. it looks like sesame oil or light soya sauce.. even through it look pale.. it is very yummy!! Especially the burned rice :)

The foods are very tasty and price is reasonable except the waitress not very helpful.. Overall experience is 3/5 :)

Another nice movie.. Clap! Clap! It is kind of funny and the characters are so interesting.. I like all these characters.. bumblebee, autobots, the twin, the Decepticon wheelie and military officer.. I learn a new acronym FTJ "Fuel the Jet" in this movie.. hehe!!

The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. Chilli Crab

I'm craving for chilli crab again.. Since I was at Changi area.. so I decide to get a crab from Changi Village but forgotten which is the best one as there is an increase number of coffee shops on the same row.. My instinct told me "to go with the best crab photos"..

The price is 1kg at S$32 and I ordered 1 crab.. it weight slightly more than 1 kg but the uncle only charge me 1kg.. As I was not hungry, I asked if he could pack the gravy and crab separately but the uncle says it won't taste nice.. In the end, he wrapped the outer layer with aluminium foil.. he claim that even if I eat it at 11pm, it would still be hot..

I brought a Delifrance baguette from Esso station.. toast it and it goes very well with the gravy.. The gravy is thick with lots of egg.. the crab is really fresh and the meat is tough.. *Oishi*
