Red Cliff II
It has been an extremely busy week.. running around like mad :( Finally TGIF.. need to de-stress.. so went to AMK to catch Red Cliff II and had my nacho cheese! *yummy* The movie is nice but a bit "over".. in really history it seem a little different.. but zhuge liang is really smart & witty!
Synopsis:
The story of RED CLIFF takes place in 208 AD in China during the Han Dynasty. Despite the presence of an emperor, Han Xiandi, China was then divided into many warring states.
The ambitious Prime Minister Cao Cao, by using the Emperor as his puppet, waged war on a kingdom in the west, Xu, ruled by the emperor’s uncle, Liu Bei. Cao Cao’s ultimate goal was to wipe out all the kingdoms and install himself as Emperor to a unified China. Liu Bei sent his military advisor Zhuge Liang as an envoy to the Wu Kingdom in the south, trying to persuade its ruler Sun Quan into joining forces. There he met Wu’s Viceroy Zhou Yu, and the two became friends amidst this uneasy alliance.
Enraged to learn that the two kingdoms have become allies, Cao Cao sent an army of eight hundred thousand soldiers and two thousand ships down south, hoping to kill two birds with one stone. Cao Cao’s army set up camp at Crow Forest, across the Yangtze River from Red Cliff, where the allies were stationed.
With the food supply running short, and the army vastly outnumbered by Cao Cao’s, the allies seemed doomed. Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang had to rely on their combined wisdom to turn the tide of battle. Numerous battles of wits and forces, on land and on water, eventually culminated into the most famous battle in Chinese history, where two thousand ships were burned, and the course of China’s history was changed forever. That was the Battle of Red Cliff.

Evelyn's Birthday Bash 2009
Sun with Moon Japanese Fine Dining & Cafe
501 Orchard Road #03-15 Wheelock Place
1st girl night outing for year 2009.. is to celebrate Evelyn's birthday..
Birthday girl has chosen the Sun with Moon Japanese fine dining and cafe at Wheelock place..The atmosphere was nice but the waitress who took our order seem to be a trainee.. she even missed 1 of our order (Caesar salad with chicken).. In the end, our orders are rainbow roll, California roll, wagyū beef with bacon, grill wagyū beef, fried udon, kamameshi with grill eel & clams, grill pork with pepper sauce and chicken teriyaki
We were caught by the attention of the banner outside the restaurant promoting the wagyū beef (和牛).. our saliva were already dripping.. so we ordered two different plates of wagyū beef.. Lucky we only ordered two plates as it is really disappointing.. it was nothing fantastic, probably due to the different grade of cattle. Even the bean spouts served with the grill wagyū beef tasted better than the beef. The wagyū beef with bacon was even worst.. the beef was totally uncooked! can't even chew. I can take medium or even medium raw.. but that one is totally RAW!!
Personally I like the rainbow sushi & kamamenshi (釜飯) with grill eel & clams. The rainbow sushi comprises of crispy soft shell crab, mango, avocado rolled in seaweed with Japanese rice seasoned with vinegar, covered with mayonnaise and topped with bright tangy crunchy smelt roe. The kamamenshi is like claypot rice.. it is served with a little hourglass on top indicates when the wooden lid may be lifted.. the clam was tasty and love the seasoned eel :)
All other dishes are just so-so.. it is either too tough or too salty :(
After the dinner, we decided that we should go somewhere else for dessert.. We serioulsy need something sweet to satisify our craving.. we were thinking of Häagen-Dazs or coffee connection. When we were ready to leave the restaurant, we suddenly remember that there is NYDC cafe downstair.. But it was packed and the next door Big O cafe restaurant capture our attention.. the dessert menu look pretty similar to NYDC cafe (actually Big O is the sister restaurant)
Big O Cafe Restaurant
501 Orchard Road #02-04/05
We got so excited over the menu.. most of the desserts are named after the movie "BATMAN".. We ordered the dark side (mud pie), Big O waffles with ice-cream topped with blueberry & chocolate nastiness. The dessert serving were huge in portion.. I love the chocolate nastiness cause the cake was served a little warm.. The waffles also taste great with my fave blueberry topping.. It also have another choice of topping "banana caramel" but I'm not a big fan of banana.. The mud pie was really tough but the girls enjoyed it.. I also had a glass of walking on sunshine.. It's a blended drink with mango tango ice cream.. at first I thought it was a float but they actually blend the ice cream so it kind of thick.. like milk shake.. LOVE IT!! :)
